The Washington Football Team has an open competition of quarterbacks in training camp featuring Ryan Fitzpatrick, Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen. Dwayne Haskins, last year’s experiment, is gone. And with Fitzpatrick signing a one-year $10 million contract the bet is that he will be at the helm at season start.
Heinicke played well in the playoff loss last season to eventual Super Bowl Champion the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But experts say the WFT likes Fitzpatrick for his ability to throw the ball deep downfield. Many of those passes might be to healed up Curtis Samuel, coming off his injury plagued season—and to Terry McLaurin who is the featured next target.
Keep an eye on Logan Thomas also to have an impact catching the ball. But much of the attention for Fitzpatrick should be to get the ball to Samuel. Coming off his most productive season, Samuel signed a three-year $34.5 million contract and could see time too coming out of the backfield for quick passes.
Fitzpatrick has a tendency to start fast but wither as the season progresses as Father Time and injuries catch up with him. The Bragr App asks if Fitzpatrick will be starting in the last game of the coming WFT season.
